New $2.5 million Community Centre

The new $2.5 million Rosedale Community Centre was officially opened today. The centre will house the Neighbourhood House, senior citizens club, health clinic, preschool centre and library.

By Wellington Shire Council - 3rd July 2006 - Back to News

A plaque celebrating the opening was unveiled by Johann Scheffer, Upper House Member of State Parliament and the Hon Peter McGauran, Federal Member for Gippsland and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

"The new Rosedale Community Centre is aptly named with its emphasis on ‘community’, said Cr Malcolm Hole, Mayor of Wellington Shire.

"The centre will draw the community together as it becomes a regular meeting place for all sorts of groups. It was an initiative of the community and has been built only because the community was prepared to work together."

The Mayor congratulated all participants for their efforts and goodwill in achieving the project.

"The strength of this approach is evident in that today we have here all three levels of government standing together in support of the community," said Cr Hole.

Funding for the community centre has been provided by the state and federal governments, Central Gippsland Health Service, Wellington Shire Council and the local community.

"I thank Johan Scheffer and the Hon Peter McGauran for the financial support of their governments in achieving this outcome.

"Their assisting the efforts of Wellington Shire Council, Central Gippsland Health Service and the community was essential in building this centre. Quite simply it would not have been built without their support," said Cr Hole.

The Rosedale Community Centre was deigned by Architects Greenway Hirst Page and built by local firm Farnham Developments. The building incorporates environmentally sensitive design principles to minimise energy consumption and reduce running costs for the user groups.

The tenants in the community centre are Rosedale Library, Neighbourhood House, Senior Citizens Club, Central Gippsland Health Service Clinic and Neighbourhood Kids Early Learning Centre.
