Anzac Street landscaping adds to Moe’s amenity

New brick garden beds containing trees and annual flowers have been developed in Moe’s Anzac Street, beautifying the streetscape and enhancing the look of one of the main entrances to the town.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 23rd December 2004 - Back to News

Latrobe City Councillor, Lisa Price, said the new brick garden beds constructed by Council in Anzac Street, were very welcoming. "Once the trees become established like those in Albert Street, the streetscape will become very attractive. The trees and garden beds add an ambience to the town," Cr Price said.

"Many residents of towns throughout the Latrobe Valley will remember days when our streetscapes were very bare. Even looking back at photographs of the 1980s reveals how few trees there were in our central business districts.

"The changes that have taken place in just twenty years or so are quite amazing. These days, all of our towns are much more welcoming, appealing and attractive places to shop and do business," Cr Price said.

Latrobe City Deputy Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that the Council initiative in Anzac Street helped to increase civic pride and community spirit.

"With the new Police Station being built in Anzac Street and alterations being made to the median strip for police access, the opportunity arose to create the garden beds and reticulate a water supply for the plantings," Cr White explained.

"While this project on its own enhances the amenity it shouldn’t be seen in isolation, as the process of increasing the attractiveness of towns and townships across the municipality is ongoing. The visual attractiveness of our streetscapes is important, not only for residents, but for the visitors who come to our region.
