Construction begins on Western Park Oval 2 Pavilion, including new curator shed and upgraded female-friendly facilitiesConstruction has started on Western Park Oval 2 Pavilion, beginning with a new curator shed, supporting local sports growth, female-friendly facilities, and community recreation, funded by Council and a government grant. By news@gippsland - 17th December 2025 - Back to News Work has begun on Council’s Western Park Oval 2 Pavilion project, with construction commencing on the oval’s new curator shed. The initial stage of works will see the construction of a new curator’s shed, located behind the grandstand. 
The new pavilion supports local football and cricket, featuring female-friendly change rooms, inclusive amenities, accessible facilities, spectator seating, and encourages increased women’s and girls’ sports participation Temporary fencing is now in place around the work site and access to the oval is expected to be maintained throughout construction. Work on the new curator’s shed is expected to be completed early 2026, to be followed by the demolition of the old shed. Construction of the new pavilion is expected to commence shortly afterwards. Investment in sportsBaw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Cr Kate Wilson said the project will benefit all oval users. "This project is an investment in the future of local sport," explained Cr Wilson. The new pavilion will continue to support the growth of local football and cricket clubs and allow for better scheduling opportunities. The pavilion will include two female friendly player change rooms with inclusive amenities, umpires’ rooms, an accessible public toilet with baby change facilities, a kiosk, and undercover spectator seating. The project was initiated by Council’s Baw Baw Shire Recreation Strategy 2017-2027 and the Warragul Outdoor Recreation Plan Review 2019 and will help support the growing participation of women and girls in sport and better meet the demands of our growing community. Baw Baw Shire Council was successful in securing a $1,000,000 grant from the Victorian Government's Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund - Women and Girls Facilities - Round 2, to deliver the new pavilion.
