Youth civic excellence

Mr Chester said, "Events like this highlight the potential of young Gippslanders. Yarram Secondary College continues to do an outstanding job nurturing students across a wide range of pathways and recognising excellence in all its forms."

Mr Chester was honoured to present his ‘Civics and Citizenship Award’ to William Cook, acknowledging his outstanding commitment to civic understanding, leadership and community values. Addressing students and families at the awards ceremony, Mr Chester encouraged young people at all stages of their schooling journey to be confident in their abilities and optimistic about the future.

"I encouraged students to never sell themselves short, to be brave, be bold and to approach the future with optimism. Whether they are finishing Year 12, preparing for their final year, or just beginning their secondary education, every student has the opportunity to make a positive difference in their community," Mr Chester said.

Student leadership transition

The awards presentation also marked the passing of leadership from outgoing school captains Hector MacAulay and Lydia Trotta to incoming captains Lexie Francis and William Cook. "I congratulate Hector and Lydia on their leadership and service, and I wish Lexie and William every success as they take on this important role in 2026," Mr Chester said.

Mr Chester congratulated all students who received recognition and thanked staff, families and volunteers for their support throughout the year. "Congratulations to every student recognised for their hard work, determination, leadership, creativity, inclusiveness and community spirit. I wish the entire Yarram Secondary College community a happy, safe and well-earned holiday break," he said.
