Allan Labor government backs First Nations athletes in Eastern Victoria with new sports grants

The Allan Labor government has announced over $67,000 in Aboriginal Sport Participation Grants, supporting First Nations athletes in Eastern Victoria with travel, uniforms, and equipment to compete locally and nationally.

The Allan Labor government is backing more First Nations athletes to take part in sport with a new round of grants delivered to support athletes with expenses for sport carnivals, travel, uniforms, equipment and more.

Victoria's Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program supports First Nations athletes with funding for uniforms, equipment, travel, accommodation, and carnival participation statewide and nationally

Grants boost participation

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced grants from the latest round of the Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program for Eastern Victoria. The program delivers grants of up to $1,000 for team uniforms and equipment, and up to $2,500 for travel costs per team so clubs can participate in both Victorian and National tournaments.

Individuals can also access up to $250 to purchase sporting uniforms and equipment, and up to $750 for their own travel costs. Sharing in more than $67,000, recipients include the Gippsland Wrens - which will receive $19,159.01 for Uniforms and Equipment for U10 Girls and Boys. Travel costs to the Southern Aboriginal Sports Basketball Tournament and travel costs to the Statewide Junior football Netball Carnival in Shepparton.

Supporting first nations

The Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program has provided almost 500 grants to community sport clubs and First Nations individuals, building stronger connections between the community sport sector and Victoria's Indigenous communities.
