Danny O’Brien says July-September 2025 data shows Labor continues failing Gippsland’s critical emergency response

Ambulance Victoria data shows Gippsland response times well below targets, with urgent calls for the Allan Labor government to improve staffing, resources, and performance to protect regional communities.

Calls for urgent improvements to ambulance response times continue as Ambulance Victoria performance data reveals response times remain well short of targets. The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said the latest figures, which cover July-September 2025, confirm that the Allan Labor government is continuing to fail Gippsland communities when it comes to critical emergency response.

Ambulance response lag

Mr O’Brien said, "The statewide target is for an ambulance to reach at least 85 per cent of Code 1 incidents within 15 minutes, but in South Gippsland that figure is just 47.4 per cent, with a wait time of more than 19 minutes on average."

"In Wellington Shire, performance is only slightly better at 53.1 per cent, with average response times above 18 minutes. These are emergencies where every minute matters and it is clear that the system is simply not keeping up," Mr O’Brien said.

Ambulance response failing

Mr O’Brien highlighted that the delays extend beyond the most urgent callouts, with Code 2 callouts (non-life-threatening incidents still requiring timely medical attention), leaving locals waiting more than 40 minutes in both local government areas.

"As well as risking the lives of Gippslanders, these delays place unfair pressure on our hardworking local paramedics. Our paramedics are dedicated, skilled and doing everything they can, but they continue to be let down by a government that has failed to invest properly in the system. Gippslanders deserve to know an ambulance will come when they need one, but right now the data shows they simply cannot rely on that," Mr O’Brien said.

Mr O’Brien said he is again calling on the Allan Labor government to take immediate action to improve ambulance performance in regional Victoria. "Gippslanders should not be waiting longer and longer for life-saving care. The Allan Labor government must act urgently to ensure our local ambulance services have the resources, staffing and support they need to meet their targets and keep our community safe."
