By news@gippsland - 2nd October 2025 - Back to News Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has praised Stratford ultra-distance runner Chris Dixon as he prepares to tackle an extraordinary challenge - running 300 kilometres in 36 hours around Lake Guthridge and Lake Guyatt in Sale. 
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester joined ultra-distance runner Chris Dixon for a run around Lake Guthridge in Sale ahead of the upcoming Helping Hands Charity Run Running for hopeThe Helping Hands Charity Run will raise funds for Free 3D Hands, a Gippsland-based organisation creating life-changing, affordable assistive devices for people with limb differences, including advanced bionic arms. Mr Chester said Chris's dedication stemmed from a deeply personal motivation. "Chris's daughter, Gracie, was born with a limb deficiency, and his passion for supporting Free 3D Hands comes from wanting to help develop technology that can transform lives. His determination, along with the incredible community spirit behind this event, is inspiring," Mr Chester said. Community supporting charityThe challenge begins on Friday, October 17, with more than 50 local runners expected to join Chris for sections of the course. Chris has set a fundraising goal of $50,000. "This event is about more than just one man running 300 kilometres - it's about a community coming together to support a Gippsland-based charity that is having a global impact." "I encourage everyone who can to get behind Chris and help him reach his fundraising goal," Mr Chester said. Donations can be made online via Free 3D Hands website.
