New CEO commences at Latrobe CityLatrobe City’s new CEO, Richard Hancock, commenced work in his new position on Monday By Latrobe City Council - 8th August 2001 - Back to News Latrobe City’s new CEO, Richard Hancock, commenced work in his new position on Monday, with a full and busy day meeting staff and Councillors, topped off by the August Council meeting on Monday night. Mr Hancock was welcomed to the organisation on Monday by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning.
Mr Hancock who was General Manager Corporate Services at the Shire of Maroochy before being appointed to Latrobe, said he would be spending some time in the initial stage of his appointment learning about the key local issues and challenges for the Council, its Councillors, the Organisation and its staff.
"I obviously want to ensure that there is a clarity of understanding between Councillors and the organisation, particularly around their needs and their expectations of the CEO and the organisation. I will be spending some time with each of our Councillors talking about what the organisation does well and where it can be improved," Mr Hancock said.
Mr Hancock said there would also need to be a period of time during which he would be fully briefed on local issues by departmental managers and key personnel.
"While numerous organisational matters are common to a municipality whether it be in Gippsland or on the Sunshine Coast, there are obviously matters that are unique to this organisation and locality, and I will need to be brought up to speed on specific issues and factors that influence them," Mr Hancock said.
"At this stage I can say that I will be working to develop a common vision for the organisation that is focused on understanding what sort of organisation we currently are, and what sort of organisation we want to be in the future, for the benefit of the Council and Community.
"I want to ensure that the organisation has a sound corporate management framework, and this will focus on strategies including: performance measurement and management, financial management and long term financial modeling, risk management, organisation development, customer service, knowledge management, information technology and community consultation," Mr Hancock added.
"I can also say at this stage that I have already noted the commitment and dedication displayed by the organisation’s management and the staff in its dealings with Latrobe Citizens and municipal issues. This is highly commendable, and I look forward to leading the team in the forthcoming years," Mr Hancock concluded.
