New Latrobe CEO appointedRichard Hancock has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Latrobe City Council. By Latrobe City - 29th June 2001 - Back to News Richard Hancock, General Manager Corporate Services, Maroochy Shire Council, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Latrobe City Council.
In announcing Council’s appointment of the new CEO, Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Brendan Jenkins, said Mt Hancock had been selected from a field of more than thirty quality candidates who had applied for the position from all over Australia.
"Mr Hancock will bring to Latrobe a range of organisational skills in business and executive management when he takes up what is widely considered to be Gippsland’s most important executive position in a few weeks. He has displayed impressive management skills in his two-year term as General Manager Corporate Services at the Maroochy Shire Council, centred on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, one of Australia’s fastest growing municipal regions," Cr Jenkins said.
"Mr Hancock won the Presidents Award for Excellence in August 2000, and Management Excellence Award from the Local Government Association of Queensland. In his position at Maroochy Shire, he was responsible for management of divisional operating and capital budgets, management of staff and contractors, and direct management of key functions in the municipality such as information systems, legal services and property management, and corporate accounting.
"Mr Hancock previously served as Group Manager Business Support and Commercial Projects with the City of Sydney, following service with Hobsons Bay Council. Many citizens will know Mr Hancock as Finance Manager with the Eastern Victoria Customer Service, Business Customer Service Group, part of Electricity Services Victoria, and previous employment with the SEC.
"The decision to make a senior appointment at the highest level is never an easy one. My fellow Councillors and I believe that Mr Hancock’s appointment will be of great benefit to the municipality and its citizens and he will deliver sound management to the operations of this Council. We thank all those who applied for this position," Cr Jenkins concluded.
Mr Hancock said he was delighted with the outcome of his appointment.
"I am looking forward to taking up the position as Latrobe City’s CEO in a few weeks time, and once again making a contribution to a region which has a great future, and which I personally have a great respect and attachment for," Mr Hancock said.
Mr Hancock will take up his position at Latrobe City in four to six weeks.
