By Latrobe City Council - 26th March 2001 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Gippsland Local Government Network has appointed an Executive Director to take the grouping of Gippsland Councils to the next level of regional coordination.
Chair of GLGN, Councillor Tony Hanning, announced that it was the unanimous position of all the Gippsland Councils that former CEO of East Gippsland Shire Council, Graeme Pearce, be appointed to the part-time position of Executive Director.
"The Network has been established since 1998. It was established with a simple Memorandum of Understanding between the seven Councils, with the resourcing of the Network being undertaken by respective Chief Executive Officers on a rotational basis. The Network has been successful in tackling regional issues in a coordinated way, and as a result there are now numerous regional initiatives and projects in place. The Network has identified the need for improved resourcing of the research, coordination and lobbying roles, and has agreed to the establishment of a secretariat structure,” Councillor Hanning said.
"Gippsland Local Government Network has demonstrated that through close cooperation and collaborative work, Gippsland Councils can achieve great things for the Gippsland Region. In fact the GLGN has been referred to by the State Government as the model of what regional cooperation should be all about,” Councillor Hanning added.
"The decision to appoint Graeme Pearce to the part-time position of Executive Director was not difficult. Graeme has extensive experience in local government in Chief Executive positions. He knows Gippsland very well. He has supported the Gippsland Local Government Network in its formation and in its delivery. We are very pleased that Graeme has agreed to take on the position for a period of twelve months, during which time the resourcing needs of GLGN will be further examined," Cr Hanning said.
