Bass Coast Local News: Free Sausage Sizzle At Litter Taskforce LaunchMembers of the community are invited to enjoy a free sausage sizzle at Inverloch. By Carol McCormack - 25th November 2002 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Members of the community are invited to enjoy a free sausage sizzle at Inverloch during the launch of Bass Coast and South Gippsland shire councils’ Litter Prevention Taskforce on Sunday 1 December 2002. The launch will take place at Rainbow Park, Ramsay Boulevard, Inverloch, from 12 noon.
The shire councils have teamed up this summer to combat the problem of litter in the coastal areas of these two municipalities.
Waste Management Officers from both Shires will be conducting educational campaigns and promotions aimed at encouraging people to "do the right thing" with their litter.
Some of the educational strategies include placing signs with information and messages about the problems of littering at key points along the coast.
Tide charts have also been printed as part of the project, and will be distributed from local stores. The charts are targeted at people who use coastal facilities often and include messages about keeping the coast clean.
Another initiative is the production of pocket sized personal ashtrays. Cigarette butts make up a significant portion of litter in waterways and along the coast. These small "go anywhere" ashtrays encourage people to keep their butts to themselves! These ashtrays will also be distributed to people free of charge from council offices, information centres and other outlets.
"Come along and enjoy the free sausage sizzle as well as picking up a tide chart, fridge magnet and personal ashtray," said Peter Roberts, Waste Management Officer with Bass Coast Shire Council.
Katie Moon, Waste Management Officer from South Gippsland Shire Council said it is important to remember that every piece of litter people drop has an impact on the surrounding environment.
