Employment levels rise in the Latrobe Valley

Local tourism gives a boost to the unemployed

By Shirley Brickell - 5th October 2000 - Back to News

News from TAFE instigates an increase in room for employment in the Latrobe Valley. There are several openings in areas of tourism, with TAFE students elected to meet the demand. Areas such as operations and event management, retail sales and tour guides are constantly growing within the region and interstate.

The tourism industry has a job for almost everyone – people of all ages, races and skills. This makes for a great opportunity for the Latrobe Valley residents to get out and explore new employment horizons.

Inspired by the huge number of staff required during the Olympics, TAFE will be running new courses specialising in these fields, the first of which focuses on Tour Guiding. The course will run for two nights a week over a 12 month period.

The rise in employment levels are very encouraging, with many hopeful that the trend to support the unemployed in the Valley is here to stay. This positive attitude may be the very thing to show the world that we are second to none.
