Consultants appointed to develop Urban Design Frameworks for coastal communities.The South Gippsland Shire Council has appointed Connell Wagner Pty Ltd as consultants to develop Urban Design Frameworks for Venus Bay, Tarwin Lower, Sandy Point and Waratah Bay. By South Gippsland Shire Council - 3rd December 2004 - Back to News A key part of the project will be consulting with landowners and residents to seek their input on issues relating to the future planning, development and design in each town, and dates have been set for the Community Information sessions and workshops.
The project will build upon work previously undertaken, including the Victorian Coastal Strategy and the Coastal Action Plan for Integrated Coastal Planning for Gippsland.
It will identify the future form and function of the towns and will establish a preferred vision and framework to balance social and economic aspirations and to protect the natural environment.
"This process will facilitate an integrated approach to future planning, development and design and will reflect the wishes of the local community identified through community consultation, " said Johann Rajaratnam, Council’s Senior Manager, Planning and Environment.
Some of the issues to be considered include:
- How big should the towns be in 20 years and what services should be provided?
- What are the key opportunities and constraints facing each town?
- Should there be more zoned areas for residential, community and commercial activity?
- How should the towns look, feel and function?
The following workshops will be held in the New Year, and a questionnaire will be available online for those unable to attend at: www.sgsc.vic.gov.au. It will also be available at selected local stores/venues and the council offices from 17th January 2005.
