Tennis court upgrades

The project was delivered by Latrobe City Council’s Major Projects Team with funding from the Federal Government’s Drought Relief Funding program. The new Flynn Community Hall and resurfaced tennis courts project included these facilities:

  • Badminton hall
  • Social room with kitchen and open fire
  • Storage facility
  • Accessible toilets
  • New tennis courts with seating

Other improvements were also done like:

  • Concrete footpaths and accessible car park
  • Undercover spectator area for tennis courts
  • Fenced car park
  • New water tanks

Cr Gibson said while the Flynn township may be small, the community was large on spirit. "The people of Flynn have worked closely with Council to make these long-awaited modern facilities a reality. The new facilities will enable the community to further build connections and identity through events and sport at the hall and tennis courts," she said.

Support for smaller communities

Cr Gibson said, "I’m proud that Council is supporting such projects which benefit all of our municipality and importantly ensure our smaller communities, such as the community of Flynn, remain vibrant and contribute to the municipality as a whole. I would like to acknowledge the Federal Government’s dedication to our community by fully funding these new facilities."

Joining Cr Gibson and Council’s Acting General Manager Assets and Presentation Jody Riordan at the opening was Morwell MP Russell Northe. The Project Reference Group consisted of representatives from the Flynn Hall Committee of Management, Flynn community, Flynn Tennis Club, Flynn CFA, Flynn Badminton Club and Flynn Country Women’s Association.
