Shire Extends Free Flood Waste Offer

East Gippsland Shire has as extended its offer to accept waste created by the floods free of charge.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 6th July 2007 - Back to News

Shire waste coordinator Megan Dennett said that hard and green waste would now be accepted until close of business next Sunday, 15 July during normal operating hours.

"We understand that in many cases the cleanup effort will be given first priority and the removal of waste will follow," she said.

"We will continue to accept hard waste including ruined white goods, furnishings and other domestic items that are now beyond repair for an extra week as well as green waste including damaged trees and vegetation.

"These can be left at the landfills at no cost and retail businesses can also dispose of ruined stock."

Ms Dennett said the preference would be to have the materials taken to either the Lakes Entrance Landfill in Thorpes Lane or the Bairnsdale facility in Johnston Road.

"These are closest to where the bulk of the waste is likely to be," she said.
