Council calls for interest from groups on Glenview Park

Expressions of interest are being sought from community groups, sporting clubs or private organisations interested in utilising some or all of the in-field area and other facilities at Glenview Park Racecourse in Traralgon.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 19th November 2004 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said that Council was undertaking a project through planning firm, Stratcorp Consulting, to assess increased utilisation of Glenview Park.

"The aim of the project is to explore the opportunities that exist to introduce new sporting, recreational and community uses to the facility, which complement the thoroughbred and greyhound racing that currently takes place at the racecourse," Mr Buckley explained.

"To assist with the project, a series of meetings and interviews with a range of interested parties that were identified, have already been undertaken; but we would like to hear from other community groups, sporting clubs or private organisations that may be interested in utilising some or all of the in-field area and other facilities at the racecourse," Mr Buckley said.

"Potential activities and services should ideally complement or add value to the existing horse and dog activities at Glenview Park, and provide new or extended opportunities for broad community participation and enjoyment.

"Proposals could be made by existing groups wishing to relocate to a larger or more central position, or by new groups and alliances that currently do not have a base. Council is keen to explore a range of possibilities," Mr Buckley said.

"Pending the outcome of the research, and analysis of the options, a master plan will be prepared for Glenview Park Racecourse to guide the future development and use of the site," Mr Buckley added.

Individuals and groups interested in exploring potential new opportunities at the Glenview Park Racecourse can contact Jayson Moran at Stratcorp Consulting, telephone 9521 6033, by Friday 26 November to discuss proposals.

For further information regarding the project, contact Grantley Switzer, at Latrobe City Council, telephone 5128 5662.
