Last week we spoke with Laila at the Leongatha Library about her nomination for 2024 South Gippsland Young Citizen of the Year. Laila's motivation stems from her desire to be a positive role model for young girls, providing them with a safe and encouraging environment. Now a Girl Guide Leader known as Lilly Pilly, she continues to inspire others.

Her nomination brought immense joy and a sense of pride, highlighting the importance of recognising and uplifting community members through awards like the South Gippsland Australia Day Awards. To read more, visit 2024 South Gippsland Young Citizen of the Year website.

The Sound of Silent

Happening this weekend! Old-style cinema meets live jazz. The Sounds of Silent are a five-piece ensemble featuring some of Melbourne's most versatile and accomplished musicians. Recreating the silent movie experience from the 1920s and 30s, this time 'Circus' by Charlie Chaplin, they blend that with improvised performances featuring music that was in style during that period.

The event is a vibrant and entertaining musical and movie event for the whole family. The Sound of Silent will be bringing their lively sound to the Bena and Mirboo North Hall's.

  • Bena Hall: Friday 13 September from 7.00pm
  • Mirboo North Hall: Saturday 14 September from 7.00pm
