Shire gains insight from community about environmental services

Wellington Shire Council is currently seeking feedback from local landholders on its environmental services, as part of its community consultation process.

By Wellington Shire Council - 13th December 2004 - Back to News

This annual survey has been distributed to randomly-selected rural landholders and addresses council services from environmental planning to the many assistance programs offered by the shire including Weeds for Trees, the Native Vegetation Protection Program and the Wetlands Protection Program. There is also a special section for suggestions and comments of a general nature.

Residents who do not receive a copy but wish to take part are welcome to request one from the council by telephoning 1300 366 244. Surveys must be returned by 31 December 2004.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "It’s crucial that we provide the best possible services and have a thorough understanding of how they are received by our residents. We have extensive environmental services, which cover the entire 11,000 square kilometres of the shire, and this survey will provide invaluable feedback from landholders for us to use in future program and policy development.

"We provide many key services including the provision of environmental advice for landholders, residents and community groups. We brief community groups and represent the shire on environmental committees, and advocate on behalf of our residents with other government departments. As Victoria’s third largest shire, we have significant amounts of vegetation and natural resources, and we are committed to promoting a high level of environmental awareness within the community."

For more information or to obtain a copy of the survey please telephone Wellington’s Environmental Planner Colleen Murphy on 1300 366 244.
