New Traralgon Creek Footbridge Takes Shape

The new replacement shared path bridge across Traralgon Creek has begun to take shape, with the steel superstructure lifted into place last week, and the new prefabricated concrete decking now installed.

By Latrobe City Council - 24th November 2009 - Back to News

The replacement bridge, will once again link Agnes Brereton and Harold Preston Reserves and replaces a suspension bridge located at the site for a number of years and dismantled last year.

Latrobe City’s deputy mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan, said the raised steel-arch design will create an attractive crossing point over Traralgon Creek, while overcoming the considerable detour which has been necessary since the removal of the pre-existing suspension bridge, dismantled for safety reasons.

"The old suspension bridge was not Disability Act compliant, but with its concrete decking, the replacement will be suitable for walkers, cyclists, and those with mobility scooters too," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"Handrails will soon be installed and there is still some work to be undertaken on the path approaches, and then the bridge will be ready for opening.

"The completed structure is likely to be operational by early December," Cr O’Callaghan added.

The new bridge is being constructed for council by HCM Constructions Vic Pty Ltd, and is being funded from the Australian Government’s Community Infrastructure Program.
