Tuesday 22 March from 2pm to 5pm.

Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) Chief Executive Officer, Cath Smith, said that the ‘back to basics’ workshop, presented by PilchConnect, would focus on ‘Roles, responsibilities, liabilities and protections of boards and committees’.

"The ‘plain English’ training aims to explain the roles and legal responsibilities in running an effective community organisation in Victoria and offers simple actions a board or committee member can take to ensure they comply with the law and protect themselves from liability.

"Previous participants have said the training helps them in their roles as decision makers, and takes the mystery out of their legal responsibilities," Ms Smith explained.

"We know that community service organisations in regional Victoria do important work and need to be supported by ongoing training and development. Giving staff and volunteers the opportunity to access this training strengthens the capacity of organisations to support their own communities.

"As part of our own commitment to this sector, VCOSS has recently received funding from the Victorian Government to run this comprehensive and necessary rural and regional training program," Ms Smith said.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that working with community organisations was a priority for Council.

"This training session, offered by VCOSS, will be of enormous benefit to the many community groups in our municipality who support the wider community and do so freely in a voluntary capacity. We are delighted to be able to support the training, by providing the venue for this informative session and would hope that many community groups will take up the opportunity to attend," Cr White concluded.

For more information regarding the program contact Hayley Peck 9654 5050 or email hayley.peck@vcoss.org.au. Registration information can be found at http://www.vcoss.org.au/clearinghouse/index.htm

All sessions incur an administration fee of $40 per participant or $20 if you are a VCOSS member (fees can be waived for organisations unable to pay).
