Sports Injury Grants Now Open: Hall

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Province, PETER HALL, is encouraging Gippsland sporting organisations to apply for a grant under the VicHealth 2005 Sports Injury Prevention Funding.

By Peter Hall - 28th April 2005 - Back to News

"Sports Injury Prevention grants aim to encourage increased participation in physical activity by assisting clubs to provide safe sporting environments, and grants of up to $2000 were available to fund injury prevention equipment or first-aid training,"

Mr Hall said.

This year’s funding will focus on the ten sports that sustain the highest incidence of injury, which include Australian rules football, baseball, basketball, cricket, hockey, netball, rugby, soccer, softball and tennis.

"Playing sport is a healthy thing to do but we must all be aware injuries can occur and it is estimated that between 30 and 50 per cent of all sporting injuries are preventable. The risk of injury can interfere with the enjoyment of participating in sport and active recreation but the good news is there are many ways to minimise risk," Mr Hall said.

"The good news is that people all around Victoria will be able to play sport more safely because of this grant program," Mr Hall said.

"This money will provide much needed support for sport. Not only will this equipment provide a safer environment but will help to increase participation,"

Mr Hall said.

Application forms are available from Mr Hall’s office at 190 Franklin Street, Traralgon, ( (03) 5174 7066, or can be down loaded from VicHealth’s website at www.vichealth.vic.gov.au. Applications close Friday 17th June, 2005. Applicants will be advised on their application by late August 2005.
