Childcare Boost For East Gippsland

Childcare providers across East Gippsland will receive a $120,000 boost from the Federal Government to replace and upgrade toys, equipment and furniture.

By Peter McGauran - 15th June 2007 - Back to News

Nationals Member for Gippsland Peter McGauran announced the funding for child care services including Orbost, Bruthen and Lake Tyers.

"Remote Family Services Uniting Care has received a total of $80,000 for their child care centres in Orbost, Bruthen and the rural mobile centre which services Omeo, Swift’s Creek, Goongerah, Buchan and Benambra," Mr McGauran said.

Funding will also be provided to Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation for its Gunai Lidie child care service and to Lake Tyers Health and Children’s Services Bung Yarnda child care service.

"All of these services provide flexible child care solutions to relatively isolated rural communities," Mr McGauran said.

Bev Newcomen, Executive Director, Remote Family Services Uniting Care, said fund-raising was difficult in small communities.

"I just know that this funding will go a long way toward accommodating the equipment needs of these smaller child care services," Ms Newcomen said.

"There is a desperate need to upgrade and replace some of the equipment.

"We would have been forced to rely on fund-raising and donations, so this announcement is fantastic."
