Gallery Café adds to dining and arts experience As one of the final touches to the refurbishment of the Latrobe Regional Gallery, a chic new café serving fresh innovative fare and operated by well known Morwell business, Tania’s Deli Catering, has opened within the facility. By Latrobe City Council - 9th January 2004 - Back to News Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, said that the Gallery Café offered arts patrons and the community at large a new dining and arts experience, one where exciting cuisine and a visit to the Gallery complemented each other.
"With a chef on site, the dishes are freshly prepared and cater to a wide taste. Patrons can sit down for tea, coffee and cake before or after their tour of the gallery. Alternatively, guests can take a leisurely lunch of sushi or bruschetta, or perhaps even sample the pasta dishes or local cheeses in the outside dining area," Ms Tegart suggested.
"A trip to the Gallery now offers visitors the chance to sit down and review the collections over a glass of fine local wine or meet with friends and family before viewing the artworks on show. As well as becoming a meeting place for regular Gallery visitors, we hope the Gallery will become more accessible to those who have visited the café and as a consequence, take the opportunity to view the exhibitions," Ms Tegart said.
Councillor Darrell White said that the café’s prime location, within the Gallery itself and in close proximity to the new Latrobe City Corporate Headquarters, Justice Precinct and the tourism attraction of the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden, was further evidence of the revitalisation of the Morwell CBD.
"It is great to see a business such as Tania’s Deli Catering, already an established name in the Latrobe Valley, expanding into an exciting new venture. The Gallery Café will provide welcome refreshment not only to Gallery patrons but to all residents and visitors to the town," Cr White said.
The Café is open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday and Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm. It is also available for dinner bookings. For reservations please telephone 5133 0379.
