2007 Innovation Gippsland Program Highlights Regional Strengths

The program for Innovation Gippsland has been finalised, with over 40 events across Gippsland in May 2007.

Gippsland will be recognised as the largest innovation festival in regional Australia through the Australian Innovation Festival. The launch will be at Monash University on Wednesday May 2nd.

Mr Glenn Patterson, Chief Executive Officer of Baw Baw Shire and Chairperson of Innovation Gippsland said, ‘Innovation Gippsland is about "Making Good Ideas Happen". This year’s program has many events which showcase home-grown ideas that are now reality.’

Walhalla, the last town in Victoria to be connected to electricity, will become the first to switch from incandescent globes to energy-efficient LE globes on May 5-6.

The Paddle Steamer Curlip project in Orbost has a strong historical element, but it’s also an innovative and effective approach to strengthening a community for the future.

Innovation Gippsland 2007 has a strong theme of supporting innovative approaches to inspiring young people and women in business, with the launch of the Gippsland-wide Young Women’s Mentoring Leadership Program, ‘Creativity + Networks = A new approach for women in business’ evening in Leongatha on May 11 and Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN’s ‘Inspiring Young People’ series.

Mr Patterson said, ‘Innovation Gippsland 2007 provides a range of opportunities to see innovative solutions linking business, government and the community.’
