Melina Bath MP:
Labor’s Yallourn North Primary School funding backflip well overdue
A $1.5 million commitment for major works at Yallourn North Primary School is long overdue, Member for Eastern Victoria and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Country Schools Melina Bath has said.
By Portal Admin - 4th August 2017 - Back to NewsThe funding is part of the Asbestos Removal Program and comes six months after Education Minister James Merlino said the Yallourn North Primary School was not a priority for funding as there was "no identified high risk asbestos" at the school.
"The Andrews Labor Government dodged the school community’s concerns for too long and left them devastated when it confirmed just six months ago that the school was not a priority," Ms Bath said.
"James Merlino’s backflip is long overdue and the Yallourn North Primary School community should be congratulated for their continued hard work to secure these funds.
"Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe met with representatives from the school community on a number of occasions and has worked hard to make sure their concerns were heard in State Parliament.
"Yallourn North is a growing school and these works will make sure students will continue to be offered the highest quality education and get the best start in life."
