Mr Ingram has been working with local community representatives who are disappointed with the shire’s handling of the UDF process and has presented a submission to council that details these concerns.

Among issues to be discussed at the meeting range are:

  • the lack of process and real consultation during the public phase of the UDFs;
  • concerns with inconsistency with the UDFs and the state planning directions;
  • the failure of council to address or respond to concerns raised by the community;
  • council’s failure to address serious concerns raised by the consultant during the UDF process;
  • failure to inform rural landholders in between the coastal towns of the impact on their land of the UDF;
  • failure to address the impact of potential sea level rises on coastal development; and
  • failure to adequately address infrastructure issues within the document, such as height of buildings, traffic flows, parking and other infrastructure needs.

"The UDF process will result in planning scheme amendments and will set the direction of these coastal communities for a number of decades, it is essential that the council gets it right," Mr Ingram said.

"It is my view that the documents passed by council do not address the legitimate concerns that were raised by large numbers of concerned community members.

"I will be calling on council to halt the process until the issues raised both in the submission and by the community are adequately addressed," Mr Ingram concluded.
