‘Power On!’ Street Parade And Twilight Market Planned For MorwellA street parade and twilight market will be held in Morwell on Saturday 21 November as part of Latrobe City’s ‘The Grid’ project and the community is invited to enjoy an evening of music, dance, food, colourful displays and entertainment By Latrobe City Council - 6th November 2009 - Back to News Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams, said that the evening would begin with a street parade of school children and members of the community along Commercial Road and into the grounds of Latrobe City’s corporate headquarters.
"The parade will leave from Tarwin Street at 5.30pm, and will feature huge three-dimensional puppets and flags symbolising the community’s hopes and dreams for a sustainable and bright future for the Latrobe Valley, in the light of climate change. The puppets and flags will be created by the children and the general public through a program of artists-in-schools and community workshops.
"Under the banner ‘Power On!’, the festival will present live bands, a special choral performance, street performers, a screening of films from The Grid - SPAusNet short film competition, a children’s choir, displays, and much more. The Latrobe City ‘Pylon Tree’, created by the community from recycled metal and wire from the electricity grid will once again be on display," Ms Adams said.
"From 4.30pm, the twilight market of businesses from across Latrobe City will be open for trading, offering delicious treats to eat, and exciting merchandise to browse and buy. It will be a perfect opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping.
"The ‘Power On!’ street parade and twilight market is the final event in Latrobe City’s ‘The Grid’ project, so we urge the community to join in with the fun," Ms Adams concluded.
