Latrobe Valley cricketers will be able to hone their skills at the new home for Gippsland cricket following the completion of the state-of-the-art facility at the Ted Summerton Reserve.
The recently completed Gippsland Regional Cricket Centre is now the benchmark for regional cricketing facilities, right here in Latrobe City at Ted Summerton Reserve, Moe.
The state-of-the-art centre boasts high performance facilities that will provide an attractive venue for touring national teams to use for games and training, but importantly will benefit all user groups across grassroots clubs, all abilities, juniors and sports fans at-large.
Providing new opportunities for active recreation, training and competition, Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Dan Clancey was keen to roll an arm over as he inspected the facility.
"The development of Ted Summerton Reserve further enhances our liveability as a regional City by providing facilities for the community that they need to continue to grow and thrive," Mayor Clancey said.
"This dedicated facility is not only for performance and development of cricketing talent but is focused on supporting the participation of those at grassroots level and allowing individuals to pursue their sporting or recreational passion across a range of sports and community activities.
"Sporting clubs are the heart and soul of local communities. Playing sport not only gets people active and healthy it gets them out into our community which is integral for individuals mental health and wellbeing."
The significant infrastructure investment allows for greater community access across a range of sports including cricket, netball, futsal and other activities.
Speaking at the opening, Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton "I’d like to thank the Victorian Government, Latrobe City Council and Cricket Australia for their support in delivering this major regional project. We look forward to supporting the local cricket community to develop the next generation of Latrobe Valley cricketers using this wonderful new facility."
The facility designed and built by Traralgon based Langden Constructions in conjunction with a number of local sub-contractors includes:
- High performance training and coaching technology
- Enclosed outdoor training wickets with storage and retractable netting
- Five lanes of indoor synthetic training wickets with extended run ups
- Unisex change facilities and first aid room
- LED lighting
- A secondary building with a community meeting room
The project was funded by the State Government through a $3 million injection from the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Sports and Community Initiative and $500,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Community Cricket Program supported by Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria.
