Latrobe City launches new aerospace precinctLatrobe City Aerospace Precinct attracted strong interest, including from a large multinational company, during its launch at the Avalon International Air Show yesterday. By Portal Admin - 6th March 2017 - Back to News Latrobe City deputy mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss said it was heartening to see the amount of interest shown in the new aerospace precinct, which is expected to build on the manufacturing capability already at Latrobe Regional Airport.
"Planning of Latrobe City Aerospace Precinct had been underway for more than two years, but now is the ideal time for launch," Cr Middlemiss said.
"The momentum behind the establishment of the aerospace precinct is buoyed by Latrobe City’s keen focus on economic diversification, aided with a tremendous level of support and understanding by other tiers of government. The aerospace precinct is located in the State Government’s Economic Growth Zone, which provides incentives for businesses to establish in the Latrobe Valley.
"More than 50 leaders in aviation manufacturing attended the launch and the interest displayed was encouraging, with at least three entities being significant chances of creating jobs in our region.
"The strategy supporting the Latrobe City Aerospace Precinct seeks to set Latrobe City apart, and will bring together research institutions, universities and industries. The precinct will establish a manufacturing zone, training and education zone, advanced manufacturing laboratory and research centre."
Cr Middlemiss said the Avalon International Air Show had long been a key event on Latrobe City’s calendar, offering a great opportunity to focus on our regional airport.
