Bass Coast Waste Disposal Fees RiseWaste disposal fees at Council’s Waste Transfer and Recycling Stations will experience a minor increase from 1 October 2006. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 9th August 2006 - Back to News "While any fee increases are regrettable, due to significant increases in State Government Landfill Levy rates, the fees had to increase in order to keep the service cost neutral.
"Increasing costs can also be attributed to the construction of additional landfill space, the rehabilitation of the Grantville Landfill and Rhyll Transfer Station sites and construction of a new transfer station on Phillip Island," Cr Goodwin informed.
The altered fees adopted by the Council at the 19 July Council Meeting include:
· General Waste (up to 3 cubic metres) – up from $18 to $20 per cubic metre;
· General Waste (over 3 cubic metres at Grantville Landfill only) – up from $66 to $68 per tonne;
· Garden Waste (excludes tree stumps and weeds) – up from $8 to $9 per cubic metre; and
· Asbestos (from domestic source – Grantville Landfill only) – up from $66 to $68 per tonne.
Residents are still able to dispose of up to two 70 litre bags of waste free of charge. However, from 1 October 2006 free disposal will only apply once per week per customer. Sorted recyclables can be disposed free of charge at any time.
Garden waste can also be disposed free of charge from 4 November 2006 until 10 December 2006. This is to help property owners clean up their land prior to fire season. This free disposal does not apply to commercial contractors.
