Spring concert will launch new Victory Park soundshell

Organisation of a huge free concert to launch a Spring season at the soon to be completed Loy Yang Power Latrobe Community Soundshell in Victory Park Traralgon, is already underway.

By Latrobe Cuity Council - 24th April 2006 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s manager executive office, Philip Marsh, said the soundshell committee recently met to plan the Spring launch and has confirmed a grand opening concert for the soundshell to take place on Sunday 15 October.

"The concert itself is currently being organised, with approaches being made to groups and performers to become involved in the soundshell’s debut. The free mega-concert promises to be a great way for all of our community to be introduced this great new asset for our City," Mr Marsh said.

"Construction of the soundshell continues to progress, with the completion anticipated just a few weeks away in mid-May," Mr Marsh said.

"Once all the structural work is finalised, the surrounding grounds will be reinstated so that they look their best for the opening performances."

While there will be no winter performances this year, the soundshell is envisaged to operate twelve months of the year following this year’s October concert.

"The decision to hold the program launch in Spring was a deliberate one made by the soundshell working committee to enable reinstatement works to be carried out on the surrounds affected by building construction," Mr Marsh said.

"This will ensure that when the soundshell is operating, patrons will not only be able to enjoy some great entertainment at the soundshell, but will be able to do so in comfort, without their visit being marred by the effects of recent construction on the surrounding environment," Mr Marsh said.

"The last thing we want is to have the concert experience for patrons flawed by them encountering fenced off areas with ‘ground under repair’ signs, detracting from a great performance.

Mr Marsh said that council and members of the working committee have already been approached by prospective users of the soundshell enquiring about its future availability.

"Early indications are that some significant events will be attracted to Latrobe City as a result of having the soundshell, and as a result our whole community is going to be enriched by having this new facility," Mr Marsh added.
