Orchestra Victoria workshop in TraralgonOrchestra Victoria will be conducting a two-day intensive musical workshop for Latrobe’s students on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 August which concludes with a free community concert.. The workshops will be held at Lavalla College, Traralgon. By Latrobe Shire Council - 29th July 2003 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said that around 50 local secondary students would attend the mOVe! event where they would develop their ensemble playing and instrumental techniques, rehearsing a number of orchestral works.
"There will also be the opportunity for the students to spend time separated into their instrument families for small tutorials," Cr Middlemiss said.
"We are pleased that conductor Peter Moore and ten players from Orchestra Victoria including flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, cello and double bass will be at the workshop to mentor the students and play alongside them," Cr Middlemiss continued.
Teachers and music education specialists in Traralgon who contributed to the planning of mOVe! have warmly welcomed the hands-on style of the program.
"Latrobe City Council has actively supported Orchestra Victoria with this education program and we are thrilled at the wonderful opportunity it will provide for all students. It will give each student a unique opportunity to work with professional performers and will be hugely inspirational to students and their teachers," Cr Middlemiss said.
Cr Middlemiss said that the education workshops form a part of the broader program of events that are being offered in the near future by Latrobe City Council and Orchestra Victoria.
"In October, Orchestra Victoria will present free concerts in Moe and Morwell as a part of the program," Cr Middlemiss revealed.
The Orchestra Victoria mOVe! workshops form part of the orchestra’s successful Regional Program and aim to provide students throughout the state with equal opportunities to access the experience and talent of professional working musicians.
Cr Middlemiss added that a free community concert would be held at 2pm on Thursday 15 August, immediately following the conclusion of the workshop.
"The concert is a chance for friends, family and members of the local community to appreciate the talents of professionals and students alike," Cr Middlemiss concluded.
