By news@gippsland - 22nd June 2016 - Back to News Latrobe City Council is calling for community feedback on two concept designs for a redeveloped Community Centre in Yinnar.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said that community input was a critical component of the project.
"Any infrastructure that Council develops should respond to current community needs and anticipate future community demands. This not only helps Council build a strong case for attracting the funding to realise our plans, but also ensures that once they are established, they meet our requirements for the long term."
The concept designs show two distinct options for the development, based on previous engagement with the Yinnar and District community.
"Option one incorporates a redevelopment of the existing buildings and the construction of new amenities that link the Memorial Hall and existing preschool to create a Community Centre.
"Option two involves the construction of a new, larger preschool facility and a redevelopment of the Memorial Hall to create a Community Centre.
"Community feedback will be crucial for demonstrating community support for the project when we seek funding from the State and Federal Governments to realise the centre." Cr Rossiter said. "Should funding be attained, this feedback will also inform the development of the final detailed designs," Cr Rossiter said.
Both designs can be viewed on the Council website, at each of the Council service centres and at the Yinnar General Store. Feedback can be provided online, via email to latrobe@latrobe.vic.gov.au or by contacting Liam Bantock, Community Development Officer, on 5128 5762. Community input will be accepted up to Friday 8 July, 2016.
The final report, along with community feedback received through this process, is expected to be presented to Council for consideration in August / September 2016.
