Sewage system upgrade for the popular Main Beach at Lakes Entrance

Monday 5 June will see work start on a major upgrade to a sewage pumping station at Lakes Entrance - on the Main Beach side of the footbridge.

By Portal Admin - 29th May 2017 - Back to News

This upgrade is designed to increase the storage capacity at the pump station, to meet the needs of tourists, nearby businesses and the local surf life saving club well into the future. It is expected to be completed by early July.

The work will be undertaken close to the toilet block, which will remain in operation while the project is underway. Access to Main Beach will not be impacted, though visitors may notice equipment and plant moving along the 90 Mile Beach, between Eastern Beach and Main Beach, to access the work site.

Importantly, the storage will increase the capacity of the local sewer network. This will be particularly beneficial at times of high usage - such as when there are major beachside events, or during excessive rainfall - by helping to ensure that the efficiency and reliability of sewerage services are maintained.

East Gippsland Water's Managing Director, Bruce Hammond said, "All customers in the immediate vicinity have been contacted in advance and the timing of the project is designed to minimise any inconvenience. Any disturbed land will be carefully reinstated after the works are completed.

"We would like to thank nearby businesses, the surf life saving club and the public for their patience and cooperation."

The installation of the storage tank is part of a $12 million program of investment in capital projects that the water corporation is committed to for the current financial year across the East Gippsland region.

Customers with any queries about the works should contact East Gippsland Water on 1800 671 841, or email egw@egwater.vic.gov.au.
