Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that three forums were planned over coming months to enable the community take part in discussions around the challenges facing the Latrobe Valley region.

"In essence, the forums are an opportunity for the community to engage with a range of stakeholders including Council representatives, industry leaders, and academics. They will be able to ask questions and take part in the discussions as we prepare to transition the region to a future low carbon economy.

"For the first session, Cr Ed Vermeulen will facilitate the discussion and speakers will include Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, who will give an update on the progress of our policy implementation; Mr Charlie Speirs from Clean Coal Victoria; and members of Latrobe City’s Low Carbon Emissions Future Transition Committee members Professor Mark Sandeman from Monash University and Mr Owen Trumper from HVP Plantations," Cr White explained.

"We would really encourage local residents to take this opportunity to have their say, ask the questions they want answered, listen to the opinions of those working directly in the field and help us as a Council to understand the emotions and direction of the community," Cr White concluded.

For seating purposes, we encourage people to register either via email on registration@latrobe.vic.gov.au or by telephoning 1300 367 700.
