Training Group Expands Its Services GETT Centre staff, Michelle Barns, Natalie Fox, Janet Batschowanow and Tina Burns celebrate ongoing enhancements to the organisation A local not-for-profit employment and training group that supports people with learning difficulties or disability has been expanded and renamed. By GippsTAFE - 28th June 2006 - Back to News The organisation, formerly known as GippsTAFE’s Vocational Training Unit, has recently been renamed the GippsTAFE Employment and Transitional Training (GETT) Centre.
The new name reflects an expansion of the existing services, which include training and employment assistance for people who experience problems finding work due to learning difficulties or disability.
"I’m proud to say we provide a vital service for Gippslanders," said manager Linda Stewart-Wynd. "The role of the GETT Centre is to remove barriers to employment, and in doing so, offer our clients an opportunity to improve both their lives and the local community.
"Our old name was unable to communicate the breadth of what we do here," she said. "The GETT Centre offers so much more than vocational training. We determine which job is right for our clients, facilitate the training they need to be successful and find them employment with companies who are looking for constructive staff."
In conjunction with the launch of their new name, the GETT Centre is developing a series of new programs and modes of delivery.
"One of the most exciting developments is an extension of our Learner Driver program," said Ms. Stewart–Wynd. "Soon, we will be able to offer the course online and provide our students with a personal tutor for one-on-one attention, in addition to the group sessions we currently run."
The expanded programs are designed to increase the range of services that are offered and provide better results for GETT Centre clientele.
"Having flexible learning solutions means that we can now offer services that are tailor-made to our students and improve the outcomes for everybody involved in the program. The slogan really says it all: GETT Training! GETT Employment! Get into the GETT Centre!"
