Contemporary dance company comes to Latrobe : Craig Bary, Ryan Lowe and Trisha Dunn perform ‘Dirt’ in Treasured Island Tasmania’s professional dance company, TasDance, will perform a collection of contemporary dance numbers at Latrobe City Performing Arts Centre on 12 and 13 August. By Latrobe City Council - 7th August 2003 - Back to News Latrobe’s Manager Arts, Paul Holton, said it is wonderful that Latrobe City residents have the opportunity to see one of Australia’s leading contemporary dance companies perform in the local area.
"TasDance was established 21 years ago and its popularity and repertoire of contemporary dance numbers has grown consistently over the years that it has been running. Now, TasDance has a reputation for being a company of talented dancers who produce polished interpretive dance pieces."
"The performance that will be held at Latrobe City Performing Arts Centre is called ‘Treasured Island’, and it is a sample of the diverse and innovative work that TasDance has built its reputation on," Mr Holton said.
‘Treasured Island’ features three very unique dances focusing on some very unusual issues. Topics such as the creative genius of William Shakespeare and problems present in the modern world will be explored through contemporary dance numbers.
"The first work in ‘Treasured Island’ is Graeme Murphy’s ‘Bard Bits’. This is an interpretation of the talent and accomplishments of Shakespeare. The second work is ‘Silverlining’, a look at the struggle between individuality and urbanisation, and the last dance feature is a stark exploration of the lifecycle in Natalie Weir’s ‘Dirt’," Mr Holton explained.
TasDance will perform ‘Treasured Island’ at Latrobe City Performing Arts Centre on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 August. Performances commence at 8pm. To book contact Select Music Systems on telephone 5174 2849, tickets cost Adults $18, Concession $15, Group (10 people or more) $16 per person, Student Group $10 per person.
