A recent independent survey of users of Council’s parks and recreation facilities confirmed that these services are highly regarded by the community.

"200 local residents were contacted in this annual phone survey conducted by Direct Marketing Professionals," said Cr John Gains, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire.

Highlights of the survey include:

  • About two-thirds of users rated the appearance of Council maintained parks and gardens as good or excellent.
  • About two-thirds of users of public barbeques and outdoor picnic furniture rated the facilities as good or excellent.
  • About two-thirds of users of public toilets are satisfied with the level of cleanliness,
  • 91% of users say that Council’s playground equipment is well maintained.
  • Only 3% of respondents rated the quality of our sports reserves as less than satisfactory.
  • 86% of respondents believe that our coastal foreshores are well maintained.

"While the survey gives an overwhelming vote of confidence to Council’s parks and leisure facilities, respondents did suggest a few areas for improvement," said Cr Gains.

62% of respondents would like to see greater community involvement in the planning of programs or activities and only 2% of respondents saw programs advertised through Council publications. Council will be increasing community involvement in the planning of leisure programs and increasing promotion and advertising of programs and activities. These issues will also be tackled during a best value review of these services next year.
