where all the creative people are.

The nursery café, in a prominent position at the entrance to Wonthaggi, has three large gates that are ripe for decorating as part of the competition being run by Creative Gippsland. Joe has made the gates available to any creative spirit who would like to take part in the competition with cash prizes up for grabs. Call into the café and have a chat to Joe if you would like to make his gates stand out in the competition with flair and fun.

Anyone can be involved in this competition. If you have a house gate, farm gate, school gate, business gate, in fact any gate can be decorated. Make it stand out from the crowd with your creative ideas and ingenuity.

You don’t need to be a professional artist, just have a flair for decorating. You could even get a group of friends together and make this a fun project. Or a community group might like to make this a project they could do.

The aim of Gatescape is to bring together artists, families, youth, community groups, farmers, people in large towns, people in small towns, nurseries and creative people to collaborate on gate art.

Judging of the finished gates is simple. Upload a photo of your finished gate to the Creative Gippsland website at www.creativegippsland.com.au/festival_2013/gatescape. Visitors to the site then vote on your photo and prizes are awarded in various categories. The first prize winner will receive $500, with $200 awarded in the other categories.

More information is available on the Creative Gippsland 2013 website. Or you can call project coordinator, Janice Orchard on 0419 301 363 or Council’s Arts Officer, Josephine Kent, on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
