East Gippsland Stars At Boat Show

The Gippsland Lakes proved to be an extremely popular attraction at the Melbourne Boat Show earlier this month.

The magnificent lakes were featured on a huge stand (9m x 3m) at this year’s show, which was held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from July 1-5.

East Gippsland Mayor Harvey Bates said it was the largest regional presence the East Gippsland region had ever had at this event.

"It was a stunning display and was all made possible thanks to partnerships with East Gippsland Tourism Campaign Committee, East Gippsland Shire and Metung, Paynesville and Lakes Entrance Business and Tourism Associations," Cr Bates said.

The Mayor said the Shire provided staff from the Visitor Information Centres to manage the stand, and many volunteers from businesses across the region assisted them.

"There was a huge amount of interest in East Gippsland, with more than 2500 information bags given to potential visitors to the region during the five-day event.

"This is a great example of how the Shire is working with the Campaign Committee and the BTAs to promote the East Gippsland region as a major holiday destination," Cr Bates said.
