Digging Up Your Family History At The LibrariesHave you ever wanted to dig up your family roots using the internet? Why not register for one of Latrobe City Libraries interactive ‘Dig your family history’ programs at the Moe, By Latrobe City - 5th July 2012 - Back to News Morwell and Traralgon libraries during Family History Week (27 July to 5 August).
The programs will focus on introducing participants to Ancestry.com and other useful websites for family historians.
Latrobe City’s libraries coordinator, Debbie Skinner, said that family historians could track their ancestors and their families across the centuries using the internet.
"There are so many records available through the internet that it is possible to do a lot of spade work on our ancestors, even when those ancestors lived on the other side of the world.
"Latrobe City Libraries provide free access to the internet through wireless and public access PCs. People can use the library PCs or bring their own laptops, iPads or tablets. Ancestry.com can be accessed free when working from any Latrobe City library branch. This includes UK Census records; births, deaths and marriages; Australian electoral rolls and convict musters.
"If you’ve just started your family history journey, or maybe you've been gathering titbits for years, this program could be just for you," Ms Skinner concluded.
