Council Welcomes Lobby Group’s New Chairman

Powerful lobby group comprising the seven councils of East Victoria elects Malcolm Hole as Chairman

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 23rd May 2002 - Back to News

The Gippsland Local Government Network (GLGN) has elected Wellington Shire Mayor, Malcolm Hole, as its Chairman.

Mayor Hole will lead the powerful lobby group that comprises the seven councils of East Victoria: Wellington, Latrobe, Baw Baw, East Gippsland, South Gippsland, Bass Coast and Cardinia.

The network was formed in 1998 and provides a united voice for Gippsland to act as an advocate for the region’s needs.

In welcoming the new GLGN Chairman, Bass Coast Shire Mayor, John Gains, said "Bass Coast Shire and the other member councils are currently building on the success of the alliance, moving forward to expand the role and influence of the GLGN".

Regional coordination and strong cooperation between member Councils are ensuring that strategies and issues affecting Gippsland are being addressed effectively and efficiently.

"I’m looking forward to the year ahead, particularly the opportunity to promote and support the interests of all the people of Gippsland at State and Federal level," said Mayor Hole.

"By working together, we are identifying and promoting potential growth opportunities for all organisations throughout the region and helping them maximise the likelihood of attracting funding."

"In addition, GLGN works to help focus the attention of governments and business to the areas of best effect in the Gippsland region."

"GLGN is seen as a role model for the rest of regional Victoria, one that has been successfully used by State and Federal Governments to deliver regional and rural programs where they have the most benefit."

"GLGN provides a powerful single voice of local government for Gippsland."
