Grand Prix Activities For Bass Coast Community By Bass Coast Shire Council - 29th August 2005 - Back to News As part of the lead up to this year’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Bass Coast Shire Council has arranged a number of fun-filled community activities
Council’s Economic Development Officer, Ros Jenzen, said that she has already had enquiries from the local community on how they can get involved in this year’s lead-up activities.
Best Dressed Business Competition:
The Best Dressed Business Competition attracts shire-wide interest each year that the GP comes to town.
"The popularity of this competition grows each year," Ms Jenzen said.
"Participating businesses in past years have commented on how many positive comments they attract when their shop windows are decorated in the spirit of the GP.
"Their advice is ‘An attractive window always draws a crowd!’," Ms Jenzen said.
Entry forms will be sent though the post to all businesses and are also available from the Bass Coast Shire Council. Entries close on 30 September.
Community Banner Project:
Invitations are also being sent to community groups to encourage their involvement in the Community Banner Project.
"The Community Banner Project is a great way for community groups and not-for-profit organisations to boost their profiles.
"The highly successful MRA Cranbourne to Phillip Island GP Run and the Bairnsdale to Phillip Island Barry Sheene Memorial Ride both receive enormous media coverage. This provides community groups with terrific exposure to promote their group’s activities," Ms Jenzen said.
Community involvement also adds an extra element of excitement for the riders participating in the rides.
GP Colouring Competition
Possibly the most popular competition leading up to the GP is the colouring competition for pre-school and primary school children.
"Students from across the whole shire participate in this competition," Ms Jenzen said.
"And are they competitive? It certainly rivals the competitiveness of the GP itself."
Prizes are awarded in the categories of pre-school, junior primary and senior primary.
For details on any of the GP activities available for the community, contact Ros Jenzen on 5951 3311 or 5671 2211.
