Comedy Festival coming to Traralgon

The line up for the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow, coming to Traralgon in May, has been announced

The line up for the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow, coming to Traralgon in May, has been announced, with Latrobe City’s Performing Arts Director, Paul Holton, saying comedy fans are in for a great treat.

"Hot on the heels of a sell out festival season in Melbourne, this year’s Roadshow will feature five great acts," Mr Holton said.

"Listeners to Triple J will be familiar with the outrageously conservative Ethel Chop who by her own admission was born some time in the last century, or even the one before. She’s not quite sure," Mr Holton said.

"Ethel will regale the audience with her tales of hardship and ensure that there is not a dry eye in the house, but will you be crying or laughing?

"After living through several wars and the depression, Ethel is renowned for making a hearty stew from a pig’s ear and a truck tyre, when other hopeless individuals are starving to death. Since the introduction of the GST, Ethel has become so thrifty at the supermarket that an onion, a can of Snappy Tom and some wood shavings can keep her going for a month," Mr Holton said.

"We are also delighted to welcome Tripod. Known as Melbourne’s own ‘professional singing idiots’, they have been dazzling audiences worldwide for over five years. Scod, Gatesy and Yon, sing and gyrate their way through the problems of the world and even manage to create some new ones while they’re at it. Not since the Partridge Family Reunion show have we seen such on-stage tension," Mr Holton said.

"Universally known as one of the best comics in the United States, Tony Woods is a one of a kind performer who is always in control of his audience and is in Australia for the first time.

"He was a hit at this year’s Melbourne Comedy Festival. Tony’s career has seen him appear on HBO’s Def Jam, Comedy Central’s Comedy Cabana, Showtime at the Apollo as well as guest starring on NYPD Blue," Mr Holton said.

"MC for the Roadshow this year is Tom Gleeson most recently recognisable as one half of the successful Triple J team Tom and Subby. Tom’s one-man show, Ginger Ninja had a sell-out season at the Melbourne Town Hall as part of this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

"His side-splitting observations on popular culture and his creatively confused outlook on everyday life, together with his impeccable timing, make for a truly great show," Mr Holton said.

"The fifth and final act will be announced soon, but with the other names already on the billboard, the show is guaranteed to be a huge success. We are delighted that the citizens of Latrobe will be able to access great comedy without having to travel to Melbourne," Mr Holton concluded.

The Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow comes to the Little Theatre in Traralgon on Wednesday 8 May. Tickets are priced at $32, $28 concession or $30 group rate (10 or more), and are available from Select Music Systems, Franklin Street, Traralgon, telephone 5174 2849.
