Northe Speaks In Parliament On Traralgon Fire Brigade Celebrating 125 Years Member for Morwell Russell Northe today spoke in Parliament on Traralgon Fire Brigades 125 years and its celebration of events over the past weekend. By Russell Northe - 14th November 2013 - Back to News He said "The Traralgon Fire Brigade recently celebrated its 125 years and to commence a weekend of activities, I had the pleasure in consort with the Chief Officer of the Country Fire Authority Euan Ferguson and Gippsland Regional Director Mark Potter in presenting the "National Emergency Service" medals to a number of Traralgon Fire Brigade representatives. "The "National Emergency Medals" were awarded in recognition of outstanding service following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires which created much devastation across the Gippsland region and Victoria. "On behalf of the Gippsland community I wish to thank our career fire-fighters, staff and volunteers who were recognised for their courage, determination and efforts during such a significant campaign. "I wish to also commend those who received service awards ranging from 5 years through to an incredible 65 years by Life member Bob Crane. Officer in Charge Peter Lockwood was presented with a "National Medal" for his amazing service; Luke Bennett was awarded Fire Fighter of the Year whilst Matt Bodinnar and Olivia Farmer were announced joint Junior Fire Fighters of the Year." On Saturday Mr Northe officially handed over the keys for a $1.5 million fire truck equipped with an aerial ladder, which will enhance emergency response capabilities in the Latrobe Valley on Saturday at the celebrations. "This is the first aerial appliance for the CFA in Gippsland. The truck is equipped with a rescue ladder and hydraulic platform that is capable of reaching several storeys in the air," Mr Northe said. "It will prove particularly useful in rescuing people from heights and fighting fires in urban and industrial environments. "The ladder can be used to deliver water and foam onto fires from above, while the platform can be used as an observation point during emergencies." "Other activities over the weekend included a fire brigade demonstration on Saturday afternoon; a torchlight procession in the Traralgon CBD on Saturday evening and an open day at the Traralgon Fire Station on Sunday". I acknowledge the work of Ale Eenjes and his dedicated committee for their organising of such a terrific weekend of events and activities.

Mr Northe said "The Traralgon fire brigade is recognised as one of the oldest community institutions in the Latrobe Valley. "The Traralgon fire brigade was established in 1888 following a series of fires in the area," Mr Northe said. "Today the brigade has more than 100 members and responds to over 600 incidents per year." Media contact: Russell Northe 5133 9088
