Clint Eastwood - Independent Candidate for Gippsland East‘It’s up to you’ By Clint Eastwood - 5th November 2006 - Back to News As we head into the final straight (I mean the state election, not the Melbourne Cup!), the voters across Victoria
will be asked to read through a ‘forest of fact and fiction’ (or should that be faction?).
As our so called ‘modern democracy’ allows, all candidates in an election, whether they be of a political party or an independent,
are able to promote ‘their cause’ and the reasons why you should vote for them.
What I hope for myself, my family, my friends and of course for our magnificent region, is someone who will actually represent
ALL of the Gippsland East electorate, no matter who you are or where you live. That is the whole point of our democratic process.
We are still the lucky country, and we still have the basic freedom to be able to intelligently and individually
speak, think, choose and act without fear of prejudice or persecution.
God let us never lose our freedom.
As Australians, we have the freedom to vote for who we want to represent us, even though the system may not be perfect, but that’s life I suppose.
So we as voters are the electors of our governments. Your vote is your voice!
The elected members are supposed to be our representatives. To act in the best interests for our communities.
If you agree that we’re not getting a fair go, and you want to make a difference toward a better future for us all, then you have a choice.
There are many important issues that are placed ‘on the agenda’ during an election campaign, and many promises are made,
only to be eventually broken. This is just not good enough.
Health, Roads, Education, Environment, Transport, Employment, Economy and so many more issues that are part of our everyday lives,
unfortunately will only receive attention when election time comes around again.
They do say ‘that change is as good as a holiday’. If that’s the case, then I’ll book the ticket. Bon Voyage…
When you head into the polling booth, and you have read through all of the election material, you will need to make an
incredibly important decision. Right or wrong, your decision WILL affect the future of our region.
On Election Day in Gippsland East, you will have seven choices. So when the time comes, if we really want to, we can change history.
To borrow a phrase from the late great Frank Sinatra: ‘It’s up to you’.
The choice is yours East Gippsland.
