$2 Million In Smart Water Fund Grants Available To East Gippsland Water Customers

Grants of up to $100,000 are available to community groups, not-for-profit organisations, businesses and individuals to help with their development of smarter, innovative ways to save water -

Under a $2 million statewide, government initiative supported by East Gippsland Water.

The grants are being made available under Round 7 of the Smart Fund – a joint initiative of Victoria’s water industry and the Victorian Government – to support inventive projects aimed at addressing the challenges and impacts of drought and climate change on urban water supplies.

Those with an innovative project targeted at Water conservation, water recycling or biosolids management are encouraged to apply.

The closing date for applications is 20 November, 2009 and an application pack can be downloaded from the Smart Water Fund website at www.smartwater.com.au

Said East Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Les Mathieson: "The need to conserve water is more important than ever as we all work together to ensure the long-term security of drinking water supplies, locally, at state level and nationally.

"By focussing on new and previously unexplored ideas, the Smart Water Fund aims to generate knowledge that can then be used by the whole community to improve water sustainability."

Since 2002 the Fund has provided $28 million in grant funding to 170 projects across the state.
