Ingram Welcomes Coalition Funding Pledges: Calls On

Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has welcomed the Liberal/National coalition’s funding pledge for two East Gippsland schools as part of their state election campaign.

"In June this year, I personally presented an election ‘wish list’ to both Premier John Brumby and Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu, outlining key projects for the Gippsland East electorate," Mr Ingram said. "Funding for Toorloo Arm Primary School and the Bairnsdale Secondary College rebuild were listed in this document and I welcome the commitment by the coalition towards these projects.

"I now call on the Labor Party to match or better the coalition’s commitment to ensure that no matter which party wins the November election, these important school projects will still be funded. "The state election campaign does not officially start until November 2, but there have already been significant funding commitments and numerous visits by ministers and shadow ministers. "Compare this to the recent federal election campaign when our region got zero commitment from any federal political party because Gippsland is well-regarded as a very safe National Party seat.

"This again proves that the Gippsland East electorate will get more commitment from all state political parties by having an independent Member of Parliament." Mr Ingram said the Bairnsdale Secondary College rebuild is essential as it formed an integral part of the Bairnsdale Education Hub, which plans new facilities for kindergarten, primary, secondary and post secondary education on the current 93 acre precinct.

"Quality school learning spaces and facilities are just one part of delivering quality education outcomes. "Facilities at the school are well below an acceptable standard and I congratulate the school council and staff for their ongoing efforts in working to have the school rebuild funded and welcome the opportunity to work with them if I am re-elected next month," Mr Ingram concluded.
