Have a say the Wellington way!

Local residents with a disability are being encouraged by Wellington Shire Council to participate in the coming Having a Say conference - a major, annual state event covering disability issues which is being held in Gippsland.

By Wellington Shire Council - 23rd February 2004 - Back to News

The theme of this year’s conference, which will run from 17-19 March, is 'Leading the Way' – featuring informative and educational performances and workshops covering everything from drama to lobbying and campaigning.

The event itself has been organised by representatives of disability groups from across the region as well as council supported RuralAccess programs – which aim to increase community awareness and understanding of the issues facing those with disabilities. Valuable input has also been provided by local organisations including the Sale Specialist School and the George Gray Centre.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "This conference provides an ideal opportunity for people with disabilities to pick up fresh skills, make new friends and experience an exciting and varied program of events. We strongly encourage interested people to attend and would like to see local services giving the conference their full support."

For more information contact RuralAccess Project Officer, Frances Ford on 1300 366 244, or visit the conference website at www.valid.org.au.
