Traralgon Early Learning Centre

Latrobe City Council is one step closer to finding a new home for its Traralgon Early Learning Centre.

By Latrobe City - 13th February 2009 - Back to News

At the Monday Council meeting, Councillors agreed to support the recommendation that 2 Mapleson Drive, Traralgon be endorsed as the preferred site.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Lisa Price said that Council was firm in its opinion that it is only willing to consider the Mapleson Drive site provided that negotiations to purchase the property result in an acceptable price.

"Should Council be unable to secure an appropriate purchase price then all previous alternatives, including Hubert Osborne Park, will be re-examined."

Councillor Price was confident that a resolution would be reached in the near future.

"Latrobe City Council is determined to achieve a result which is not only fiscally responsible, but which meets the needs of the local community and child care users.

"Our redevelopment of the Traralgon Early Learning Centre is particularly important given recent developments in the child care sector.

"Council is increasingly being seen as an important provider of child care services in local communities.

"A new centre will provide an opportunity to integrate with other early child hood services and allow Latrobe City to implement the recommendations of the Latrobe City Childcare Strategy," Cr Price concluded.
